Steven Horton, who several members have heard speak, will be speaking about the memorials and monuments surrounding Saint George's Hall and Saint John's Gardens. You can't get much more historic or local to the Central Library Please play on the door.
Ros due to lead this one. It is a bank holiday so the date has changed. It will be the one that she was hoping to lead in January but was stranded in Ireland due to snow. Yes I said snow in Ireland unheard of! It is to savour the delights of Birkenhead Park. Historically a fascinating place! And there is a lot more than just the history to enjoy. You will need your travel pass.
Margery Booth, the 'Knickers Spy' who sang for Hitler. This is the captivating story of one woman's heroism and it highlights the role of other brave women in WW2 who's stories have not been told.
This is a repeat of the January one around Garston which Des has been asked to repeat. If you look in articles the one on Garston has got a couple of www links would you might like to look at before you go. It is incredibly easy to get to. Arriva buses 80, 80a, 82, 86a, 166, & 188 though not the 82a. Hatton buses 167 Stagecoach buses 82 & 86 though not the 86c. Approximately 7 trains now are from Lime Street by multiple companies. Merseyrail from Ormskirk via Central and Moorfields every 15 minutes.
We have quite a distinguished speaker lined up. He is travelling up from Hertfordshire so please pass the word to make it worth his while with big audience. Tickets £4, please at the door.
It's due to be Louise's turn to lead the walk. She hopes to be able to reschedule the West Derby walk before this. Dates that suit everybody are proving elusive. So this is currently the fallback position. Watch this space, walks&talks WhatsApp and the branch newsletter.
A talk by Sue Latimer the former Heritage Interpreter and Researcher for the Southport Heritage Project. You may have seen the signs, particularly on hoardings, around Southport the lost couple years. She's now working as a freelancer. They should be an interesting one it sounds as it she's putting a lot of work into it. If you know people from the Southport area, who might be interested please invite them. Tickets £4, please pay at the door.
Margie is scheduled to be the walk leader.
Tickets £4, please at the door. The current plan is to have a meeting utilising the skills and knowledge of members of the group. This is in keeping with the aims and objectives of the U3A generally. It is also timed to save money on speakers when lower attendances are expected because of the holiday period.
Ros is due to be leading this walk.
This is a cut and paste of the letter David said after the March meeting. 'May I say how much I enjoyed Friday morning - a delightful group and it was a pleasure to speak to you all again...... I would be more than happy to write a special "Liverpool Lives 2" talk just for your group - I have checked out some names and I have enough for another talk.' A talk specially for us deserves a big audience please.
Tickets £4, please at the door. John Maguire is currently writing a book on the subject. Which I didn't know when I asked him, after the meeting in January, if he knew of of anyone who could do a talk on Samhain. No prizes for guessing who l asked to do the talk.
Given the success of the 2025 quiz (thanks Louise) one of the winning team has agreed to set the questions this year. Thanks Ros!

Important message from Margaret. The giraffe building requires her to provide the names and people who will be going. She needs this beforehand. Use our email address and we will forward an emails to her. The next local interest walk is on Friday 10th April ( the second Friday of the month to avoid Good Friday) . Meet 10.30 at Lime St station by the Ken and Betty statues. There are three key venues on this walk. The first is a fine example of inter war social housing. The next is an interesting exhibition focussing on the work of black musicians in the 50s and 60s from Toxteth, 'The Harlem of Europe'. The third venue is a visit and guided tour of the Spine (aka the Giraffe), said to be one of the healthiest workplaces for mental and physical well being in Europe. A wonderful building with a great cafe for our break (card only). Please let me know if you are coming (please provide me with your first and last name) as I have to send a register of attendees a few days beforehand. It is an amazing place. I do hope you can come along. Margie Swann
